Why adventure travel ( Mongolia Trip)

Hi I have been away for a while & I am going to start writing on Mongolia trip. Again it is the same 3 of us , Me, MJ & Poh. This is realliy an interesting trip & lots of memories that I am going to share with you. Why we choose Mongolia, reason is simple as we want to conquer difficult places while we all still have the energy to endure the hardship along the way. MJ did all the reserach & we are supposdly to meet our guide in Ulan Batur. Our travel is via Beijing to Mongolian's capital. I would like to start the trip by introducing a mind boggling at least to me, that is the Gobi Desert, Used to be an ocean but it is the driest place on earth & the other one is Mongolian house called Ger. I am extracting some of interesting photos of Gobi Desert & the Ger. The GER, couple of Gobi Desert shots & Graham ( the person we interacts for the trip )& our guide. Enjo & will share more in the next post

Why Adventure travel ( Nairobi airport)

Had left Ngorongoro & moved back to Nairobi to catch a flight back to M'sia, I felt very happy as I had accomplished what I had to do, Now it is time to go home, but before that i would like to share with U on some of unpleasant encounter on food. I guess eventhough that we are very adventurous, food hygiene is important to be observed. 3 of us were wandering along the town , feeling hungry & yearn for local food. Yes we found a restaurant & we have a big lady waitress & recommended to us the local dish. We chatted while waiting for our food , finally the food came & of course we ate. Delicious but unfortunately after we had done & paid the bill, my tummy was soo upset that I need to go to the restroom. I had a BIG surprise, there were flies, had never seen so many flies before & flies home is the toilet. It is not a modern toilet but an old one that U need to clear off the waste at the end of the day. Can't U imagine how I felt & I felt like vomitting at that point of time. only Allah knows how I felt at that time. then on I had to remind myself not to have a local food before U check the facilities. So long for the food surprise, time for us to go to the airport before boarding the flight back home. So long Mt Kilimanjaro, so long Lions. lioness, zebra, elephants, giraffe, cheetah. lakes... craters , so long our guides, drivers. It was a lovely adventurous trip that I will never forget.

Why Adventure travel ( Accident day & Serengeti)

It's me again after a long break from posting new stuff, I had met with an accident, first time in my whole driving life, It was so quick & it was so loud . I do not know what to do, by myself & it was fortunate that I was in a familiar surrounding. I wanted to buy pasembur ( mix of vegetables with a gravy) for my parents before both of them left for my hometown. I had frequented the restaurant for many years & the owner knew me , which makes it easier for me to face the situation. This is what I called as another form an adventure. More of the journey of dealing with an accident & what needs to follow next. My advice for me & as for the rest is to keep calm, do not create a scene & take one step at a time. BTW I still felt traumatized even couple of days had gone. OK guess I felt better after I had wrote it down.
The last notes was to move towards Serengeti & Ngorongoro Crater. Same as in Masai Mara it is an animal kingdom. By then we are about to get sick on animal. there is no more like ... Wow, Lions,, giraffe, elephant but more of OOh another groups of lions, another groups of zebras... I guess we were tired after the arduous journey of the Kilimanjaroo adventure. Nevertheless the landscape is a bit different from Masai Mara, we continued the journey & had done with it & moving back towards Nairobi, for us to the plane back to home sweet Home , Malaysia..The next posting will be photos. I promise U will get to see me clad in thick jacket at Gillman Points,,,, stay tune.

Why Adventure travel ( Serengeti/Moshi)

Hi, with all the excitement after 1 yr training & 6 days of climbing to the mountain , it is time to be on the Safari at Serengeti. On the way down our driver told us that Princess Diana had died. None of us believe him & we finally saw on newspaper, well we talked about it , but we had to continue on, We met a Christian
mercenary ( picture above)in a town called Moshi, a couple from Singapore who had devoted their time helping the people in Tanzania. we chatted & we were told of a shop that sells nice hot chicken & of course after gruelsome 6 days climb we did not want to miss the opportunity of eating this chicken. It was quite chilly & I was with my sarung & we found the place for our dinner, sat down & ate, truely enough , it is hot & we were sweating, We had a blast. While I was eating I remembered one important event that makes me feel that I am lucky to be a Malaysian. It happens when we were on the way down from the mountain where there is a kid who begged for a pencil but not money. I asked him why he asked for a pencil, he told me that he wanted to use for his study. Gosh, basic thing & we Malaysians take this thing for granted. So much so for Moshi, will continue with Serengeti ..

Why Adventure travel ( Kilimanjaroo descend )

Hi morning for Eastern folks and evening for Western folks, I would like to describe what is it like to descend from the mountain. It was interesting as I saw gravel for the last couple of metres up the mountain & I was not aware of it when I was up in 3.00am in the morning & started the climb, This is what U called an eadventure travel as I had mentioned earlier we never know what to expect & we were not prepared for it. Walking on the gravel was not in our gruelsome training list a year ago, amazing isn't it. Much U had anticipated based on all the information , there are still something missing, but I am really glad & it is really something that I cannot describe. Now I understand how is it like being on the top even though I was not really at the summit, reaching Gillman's Point is wonderful enough for a M'sian, . The feeling which U cannot utter in words, only being there U feel it. I really encourage young M'sians & for all young & old from all walks of life in the world to venture this adventurous climb. OK so much for that. I would call as gliding down the gravel, I remembered my guide was holding my hand & usher me to glide down & of course it took us only few minutes to reach teh boulders, instead of hours in the morning. By then the sun is up we reach the base camp & everyone is already down & few folks had congratulated me for being able to survive the ordeal, again teh climbers praised me as I was from hot countries conquering the cold snowcapped mountain... I am so proud to write my name in the book for those who had reached the summit & Gillman's Point. Proudly I took teh pen given by my Guide & stared writing my Full name & my beloved country & the memorable date. I Azizah Abdul Aziz from Malaysia had reached Gillman's Point on 31st Aug 1997, ( And yes I have the certififcate) For those who had captured the mountain & will be capturing the mountain, U can search from the list of names. I was frantically looking for any M'sian, I did find one , If I am not mistaken one from KL. If the person happens to read my blog, pls. send me an email. For that day I was the happiest person & I was grateful to Allah that made my dream comes true.....I was not fortunate to reach Uhuru peak as it was late & I had acquired mountain sickness, search through Youtube & found the videos of the on the summit, It is a sharing for me & all of U

Why Adventure Travel ( Mt Kilimanjaroo 2)

Hi, Part 2 of the journey towards Kilimanjaroo summit , reached the base camp before the final ascend to the top. It was so cold that I cannot sleep at nite. It was torturous everytime that I need to go to the restroom , cause I was wearing everything so thick to ensure to keep me warmth. We were told to be up by 3.00am in the morning & when the time comes 3 of us started our journey up with 2 guides . It is cold, difficult to go up & along the way 1 of us experienced mountain sickness & the guide had to bring her down. 2 of us continued walking & not long after that another one was affected by the mountain sickness, leaving me with to continue the journey up. Our jewish friend was nowhere to be seen. the climb is getting difficult every time until at one stage I cannot lift up my leg, It went in too deep & I had to use all my energy to lift up my leg in order to move to the next step, I had to stop everytime as I need to take a deep breath. My guide seems to be not affected at all by the thin air. He told me that it is only another 100 metres to reach Gillman Points, To me 100 metres seemed so far as I remembered like lifting a heavy stone in order to lift my leg & stop for every step. I was breathing very heavily & my guide keep on indicating to me to move forward . It was the first time in my whole life to have a feeling of Wanting to give up , but i have a stong will to continue . After all the heavy breathing & many stops, reached Gillman's Point & to my dismay I did experienced the mountain sickness too. I had vommitted immediately I reach the point, I had to stop before admiring the place & started taking a couple of shots.. I realized the sun is up & the guide adviced me to come down instead of to continue. I felt disappointed but I felt happy that I had met my goal, reaching the summit eventhough Gillman Points on 31st Aug. Well, after resting a while & seeing other climbers came down the summit , time for me to leave the place & started the descend.

real adventure,

Will continue on the journry to descend tomorrow.

Why Adventure Travel ( Mt Kilimanjaro Climb)

I am going to share with you the most memorable adventuorus travel that I had experienced, to reach the Gillman Point at 5685M , Undescribeable experience , I wish I am on the top of the Mountain but again U can wish, just U are not fated to reach the target. All 3 of us experienced the Mountain sickness at the different terrain height, Again I reached Gillman Point on the 31st aug, Malaysian National Holiday & a day world shall remember, the death of Pincess Diana , Yes i was at Gillman Point on 31st Aug 1997, I hope all of you believe this, again as I promised I will scan the photo for you to see. I am a proud Malaysia holding my Malaysian flag, It was so cold I could hardly able to hold my flag. That is the happiest moment after a 1 yr old training that we had endured. Before this happy moment I will share with you the journey from the base camp. We met a Jewish young guy & he tagged along with us from base camp all the way to the base summit He had just completed conquering another mountain in Kenya & he is going to try conquering Kilimanjaroo, Gees he is so fit , but again we think we will also be like him, We were assigned with guides, yes the guides are paid to bring all our staff, backpack, foods cause we need to stop at a couple of locations in order to get acclimatized to the wheather & the thin air . We walk non-stop depending how far to the place that we wanted to stop, sometimes it takes 3 to 6 hrs, we almost dead tired when we reach the camp, we had a hearty meals & of course a good sleep. I will snooze for the time being, & will continue sharing with you tomorrow.

Masai Mara Park part 2 ( Why Adventure travel)

Hi It is me again, This time I will start off with why I like an adventure travel, reason is simple, it is interesting , U are always alert, Nothing guaranteed , U do not know what to expect, on U do not know what is going to happen the next day & of course we live a bare minimum. It is like follow the breeze, that is how I feel & of course that is what happens when we are in Kenya & Tanzania game reserve. We still cannot find any Lions but we observe animal migration, My first time we were in the van & suddenly U can see heards of animals running in one direction, U can feel the earth moves & the sands in the air, it was amazing, zebras impallas, U name it. Man, it is happening & I am proud to be observing how nature evolves. Well good bye, Masai Mara park, Now moving towards Serengeti/ Moshi. This time we told our diver/ guide to just look for Lions, He did his best & went up the hilly & rocky areas as there are lions on the tree & the guide is looking for the place, again to our disappointment No LIONS, WHere are U lions... We drove around again, then to our surprise LIONS/LIONESS by the roadside, I saw 2 , then 3 & my God there were 6 of them, male, female & the kids lions, they were so close ~ 6 feet from our van,, We snapped photos, then we continue our journey & this time , we see more lions, this time on the hill terrain , by the lake & I felt like we were in the land of lions , reminds me of the story of the Land Of Giants. We spend almost the whole day savouring lions, admiring them snapping many lions position/ walking, sleeping , rolling by teh side, preying on Impallas , whatever we can capture. I was so happy & we were exhausted but we slept very well, Why... We finally achieved our goals..LIONS/LIONESS,, KIDS LION .I will add in the photos in my next write-up.. ( No digital photos at that time, I have to screen the images.... he..he..he.. old technology) We really have a great adventure for that particular day

Kenya Masai Mara ( Why Adventure travel)

The 3 of us ladies landed in Kenya using SIA airline. What a relieve after a long plane ride from S'pore to a country called Kenya . When we reach Kenya we were immediately towed to Masai Mara, Along the way I had never seen so many animals in my life in an open space, Zebra, elephants Giraffe,, Impala. I was soo excited cause some of Giraffe are so close to our trucks that we can almost touched Giraffe long necks . then our trucks reached Masai Mara Park & the guide started the game venture. We were driving around looking for LIONS.I love lions but I had not seen one , But we saw the fastest animal , i.e the cheetah. We can't get too close , afraid of Cheetah's attack, stayed on the van & watch them, then we saw 2 cheetah on hunting. Interesting to see how they approach & attack the victims. My understanding is Cheetah cannot hunt alone, all of us sit in our respective vans watching how Cheetah hunted the impala. 2 Cheetahs approaching the Impala form 2 different angle, snooping in to the Impala & start chasing the impala & it was aswift action of grabbing the neck. that is really an experience to witness the game. But still no lions, interetsing day to watch the game but disappointed as I had not seen any Lions. back to our camp for a hearty dinner before turning in for a goodnite sleep... For now, I will continue on the second day with a big surprise....

Kilimanjaro Experience ( Adventure travel)

Hi, had been days I had not posted any stories, While the whole world is focussing on Michael Jackson's death ( which I am one of his greatest fan, shocked & tears fell hearing that he passed away while at prime age, when world is still wanting to see his innovative twist in his 50 concert in Britain, I guess the theme This is It, indicating that that is his final words for his concert, May Allah bless his soul) . So much for MJ, as i had promised in my earlier blog I will share with U of the torture that we had endures for a year of going through the regular training to increase our stamina, body's strength , overall fitness, physical and mental . 3 of us listed down the training schedule, includes climbing the hills , walk around the botanical garden , increase the training frequency until we feel fit enough to go. One of the training that we had unable to practise is walking uphill at the high altitude. We had no idea of what it is like climbing a mountain ( ~25000 feet) the only thing that we know of is making sure that we are fit enough to climb the mountain. We do not know how is it like to experience the mountain sickness. Being Malaysian , located in Equatorial where hot & rain is the only game in town, & there is no mountain in Malaysia as high as Mt Kilimanjaro , but we still determine to go regardless. Our target was to reach the summit on 31st Aug ( the date is important to us cause it is Malaysian Independence day. With all the training & the preparation we had finally made it to embark the plane to leave for Kenya.
Will continue with the trip.

For those who had been at summit , pls. share on Ur preparation for the trip.

Why adventure travel part 3

I love adventure & my heart felt everytime I read the stories about destruction of nature . I read today's article by Hymeir K regarding one of the hidden jewel in Malaysia which is a limestone of Permian age ~ 240 million yrs old which will be destroyed if quarrying is allowed . The limestones formation of the cave chambers can be incorporated into the adventure travel itinerary, that consisted of 19 bats species. The questions is why should we destroy the gems that was formed 240 mil years ago for monetary gain????
